Hi! I’m Shaozhon Jian, Advanced Clinical Intern

I grew up in China, attended high school in the United States, and later moved to the Netherlands for university. These experiences shaped my understanding of identity, belonging, and what it can mean to move between cultural worlds. I know how adjusting to new environments can be deeply formative, while also bringing feelings of loneliness, uncertainty, or disconnection. This personal background shapes how I listen, what I notice, and how I hold the stories people bring into the room.

My training in developmental psychology gives me a particular interest in how people form and reform a sense of self through major life transitions. My background in work psychology also informs how I think about burnout, expectations, and the ways identity, achievement, and self-worth can become deeply intertwined.

I view therapy as a genuine collaboration, and I am to offer a safe, warm, and non-judgmental space where you can show up as you are. In our sessions, we will move at a pace that feels manageable for you, with care and respect for the parts of your experience you may feel difficult to put into words. Together, we can make sense of what you are carrying, understand patterns that may have once helped you cope, and explore new ways of relating to yourself with more clarity, self-compassion, and support.

I believe that healing does not have to feel heavy. Alongside making sense of what is painful or difficult, therapy can also be a place to gently reconnect with parts of yourself that you may have set aside, including lightness, play, curiousity, and a greater sense of ease.

My practical training includes practical course work in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). My thinking is also shaped by foundational ideas from Schema Therapy and Internal Family Systems. As an intern therapist, I integrate these perspectives thoughtfully and under clinical supervision of Olivia Brouillette-Wardhono.

As part of my internship, I am hoping to gain more supervised clinical experience supporting adults who are navigating low mood or depressive symptoms, anxiety, especially social anxiety, identity exploration, or concerns related to sexuality and intimacy. These areas have become especially meaningful to me through my clinical training, and I approach them with curiosity, openness, and respect.
