Originally from the United States, I made the move to The Netherlands in 2016 to pursue my graduate studies. I completed my master's in counselling psychology from Webster University in Leiden in May 2018. During my time at Webster, I had the privilege of working with individuals dealing with anxiety disorders, depression, suicidality, bipolar disorders, and dissociation. Additionally, my focus extended to conducting research, internship, and group therapy sessions centered around the LGBTQ+ experience and identity formation.

Embracing the importance of intersectionality, I recognize that everyone's experiences are shaped by a complex interplay of various identities, such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, ability, and socioeconomic background. As a queer individual myself, I am acutely aware of the unique challenges and experiences that can arise from these intersecting aspects of identity. It is my utmost priority to create a safe and inclusive space for all clients, taking into account the specific struggles they may face due to their intersecting identities. Understanding the impact of these factors is crucial in providing effective and empathetic support.

Throughout my journey as a therapist, I discovered a true passion for supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly in areas such as gender and sexuality exploration, self-acceptance, addressing internalized homophobia, and establishing healthy boundaries. Furthermore, I am experienced in addressing (childhood) trauma, anxiety disorders, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, suicidal thoughts and ideation, intrusive thinking, communication, and relationship issues, always emphasizing the crucial relationship with oneself.

As a fellow queer expat, I am intimately familiar with the challenges and stress that accompany moving to a new country. My extensive experience allows me to connect effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, fostering personal and professional growth for my clients, both in the present and beyond.

In therapy, my approach is highly client-centered, as I firmly believe in granting you complete autonomy during our sessions while offering as much guidance as you require. Together, we can navigate a variety of therapeutic methods, primarily employing talk therapy, psychodynamic theory, and schema therapy, complemented by cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques and mindfulness practices. My ultimate goal is to empower all my clients, enabling them to take charge of their lives and leave each session feeling empowered.

I firmly believe in the significance of intersectionality in therapy, and I approach each client with an understanding of how their unique combination of identities shapes their experiences. By acknowledging the impact of various factors like race, ethnicity, gender, and more, I strive to offer a holistic and nuanced approach to counseling. This allows me to tailor my therapeutic techniques to suit the individual needs of each client, ensuring they receive the support and guidance necessary for their specific journey.

Professional Advice and Supervision:

In addition to providing counseling services, I also offer professional advice and supervision to aspiring therapists and counselors. With my background in counseling psychology and expertise in working with diverse populations, I am committed to helping fellow mental health professionals enhance their skills and gain insights into culturally sensitive and affirming practices. By offering supervision, I aim to contribute to the growth and development of future therapists, ultimately benefiting the broader mental health community.
